In the run up to the centenary celebrations of Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), the Postal Department will issue a special cover on the university in recognition of its outstanding contribution to the field of education over the years.

The special cover with a picture of the university that was founded in 1920 will be released on January 19, 2017 (Thursday) at 10 am at the District Level Philately Exhibition which will be presided over by Mr. L. N. Sharma, Chief Postmaster General, Delhi Circle. Prof. Talat Ahmad, Vice Chancellor, JMI will be the Chief Guest on the occasion.

The Office of the Senior Superintendent of Post Offices, New Delhi Division, Department of Posts, Ministry of Communications, Government of India is organizing a two-day District Level Philately Exhibition called ‘KALINDI-2017’ on January 19 & 20, 2017from 10.00 am to 05.00 pm at M.F. Husain Art Gallery (overlooking the Dr. M.A. Ansari Auditorium, JMI).

The special cover on JMI priced Rs. 10/- along with other old stamps will be on display and sale during the two-day exhibition.

The objective of the exhibition is to showcase to the general public, in particular, the youth, the cultural and educational aspects of the hobby of stamp collection and to facilitate expansion of friendly-relations and cooperation among postal staff, philatelists, philatelic dealers and the media.

Mr. A. P. Siddiqui, Registrar, JMI will be the Chief Guest at the closing ceremony on January 20, 2017 along with Mr. R. K. Maharaj, PMG (BD), Delhi Circle and Mr. S. K. Chowdhury, PMG (O) Delhi Circle who will preside over the function.

Students of different age groups from various schools/institutions and those from Jamia schools will participate in the exhibition and display their exhibits. The exhibition will be an informative and educational experience for participants as well as visitors.

As part of the programme, Drawing Competition and a Quiz Competition along with many other ancillary activities like Philately Workshop, Magic Show, etc. will be organized. The Drawing Competition on the topics 1) Save Earth 2) The Changing Face of Post Office and 3) Your idea of Cashless India will be open to students up to Class XII.

Gold, Silver and Bronze medals and cash prizes shall be given to the winners of Philately Exhibition, drawing and quiz competitions as per the guidelines already circulated to schools.

Besides, trophies for ‘School Collection’ in the Philately Exhibition and ‘Best School Trophy’ for participation shall also be awarded under various categories. A certificate of participation will be given to all the participants.
